Fresh 20, Looking For Insight!
Hey guys,
I just started playing GW1 about 4 days ago and I am now hooked . I just got my first level 20, a Necromancer as you can assume since i am posting in this Forum. I managed to get one of my Elite Skills, Spiteful Spirit. While leveling I have been doing MM, but I am going to be focusing more on completing the campaigns so then I can do UW. I read the Necromancer Guide on this website, but I don't understand what it is saying, being new and all to GW I have yet to master this games lingo. Please if you have any helpful input, please let me know. (Try to make it as simple as possible so I understand.)
Thanks Yall

Kill 'em all with death! Make 'em die. Congrats on Necro, good farmer too.
http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:N/Me_SS_Nuker but the other pve builds are all good too. pvxwiki can give you a lot of good ideas. In the blank spots put on other skills as seem good to you. Eventually design your own build that everyone else hates but works for you.

Playing with heros the whole thing is easy. SS or MM or even both . Just get your heros and run any of the meta builds.
A good mm will do things like constantly make minions and death nova etc. Many dont even use a death elite though I like AoTL if I do. Heros do MM better especially when microd, but don't let that stop you. Play AotL Aura of the Lich MM with Masochism (SR soul reaping) to learn how to make high level minions. Also try botm blood of the master for keeping them up and sacrificing health. Though most people no longer use it. MM's are super flexible.
A good SS will spread the love eh the hate all over. Constantly spamming skills since your mana will be refreshed with every kill. Mop = Mark of pain and Barbs if you have any physical damage dealers and or you carry a shield and spear is effective too. There ton's of curse builds that work well. Try out different ones to suit your play style. UW etc can have fairly rigid builds for some teams so you have more freedom now.
SR soul reaping.. has a few skills and if you ever have an extra slot.. Signet of lost souls is a safe choice. Masochism is used for quite a few mm build. Icy veins elite will be good damage on MM's etc when they finally update the game.
Blood is lower on chain but has some cool skills imo. Vampires are neat. BiPpers Blood is Power are needed some times. Good to practice being a battery and sacrificing health.
Have fun try different skills and check the guides to rushing through if you only want to do uw asap. But the game is fun to play through naturally if you have time for it.

FYI... you only need to do one of the following: ascend (prophecies), get closer to the stars (factions), or complete rank 7 sun-spear title (nightfall), to gain access into the underworld.

Minion Masters are powerful beyond belief but very annoying to play for extended periods of time, in my opinion. Especially if you're trying to Minion Bomb with Death Nova. Just save that for a necro hero since robots do that kind of repetitive action very well and never get tired or annoyed.
No matter what you're playing you'll probably want to try to fit Mark of Pain and Barbs on your bar, those skills have great synergy with minions and physical attack heroes.

A word of caution, UW playing has become very "elite" (meaning exclusive). If you are interested in UW adventuring with other people then I recommend finding a friendly guild that will assist you in that goal.
There are also some solo farming builds (N/Rt SoS farmer) that will help if your goal is the acquisition of ectoplasm.
An advantage of being a necro, everyone likes to have at least one in a party.

Then when you want to be lolling in overpoweredness get over to factions, change your secondary to /a, and use Assassin's Promise to utterly break the game. AP is obscenely good at making MoP go from the highest damage AoE skill in the game to the highest damage AoE skill in the game that is also spammable.

Heya there, fellow Necromancer! I'm going to let you know what I've felt as I've been playing with my Necro main.
At first I was all "Cool! I can control the dead!!"
Then I was all "Starting to get a bit boring."
It got to the stage where I was "Why didn't I start on an Elementalist or a Warrior?"
Then I REALLY got into it.
I've managed to finish all 3 campaigns + EotN with a team build that lets me do what I want to do! So whether it be MM, SS, SoS, whatever, I can do it. I think that was the main problem I had. I needed to adjust my build to fit with my heroes' builds.
Just find what works for you, is FUN [!!!] and stick with it!

Am I able to change my secondary profession or no? Because right now I am N/Mo and when i am farming I just have all my heroes do the fighting and I just pick up the corpses...rotating between Animate Bone horror, Animate Vampiric Horror, and Animate Bone Fiend till I have a total of 12 minions and then I just spam Blood of the Master, for a 5 minute period then I just rebuild and repeat I like it and all but I want to be able to farm stuff quickly because I am interested in making a 55 necro build but at the moment I have no money. And I only have one of the Elite Skills which is Spiteful Spirit, my next elite will be AotL then Animate Flesh Golem.

You can change your secondary, yes. You have to become ascended, pending the campaign you started from, will determine which quest fulfills that. Then you will be able to no problem.

That is correct ma'am! But it's not difficult to do so, just play through the campaign, and you'll get it =)

I've never seen the appeal of AP. Giving up your elite just to get energy (soul reaping...?) and spam skills that don't need to be spammed? There has to be a Necro elite that is more worthwhile than AP...

1. YMLaD + Finish Him = 160 damage + deep wound, so anything under 260 health can be killed instantly (or in .75s to cast AP, and recharge itself). Highest theoretical DPS you can reach is 180 just alternating between AP and shouting at things. You can probably hit 80-100 DPS in practice against anything other than individual boss monsters. EVAS can bump this further while giving you an extra tank and physical attacker for MoP, but I consider this optional.
2. Mark of Pain + 8 party members with physical weapons (casters get spears) + Minions + splinter weapon/100B/VoS + multi hit attacks actually does infinity AoE damage.
So we have among the best single target damage and THE BEST AoE damage ability in the game. It only costs us 4 skills to do this, and we have effectively infinite energy and instant recharge from AP to apply to whatever 4 more utility skills we want to take.

Friendly tip, don't focus yourself on the Underworld(UW in short), it's a very newbie unfriendly place and the only people there are farmers(most of which are experienced and hate newbies ruining their farming runs). Instead I suggest you take your sweet time to learn the game, try out the various secondary professions, especially casters, as Soul Reaping(your primary attribute) is a great energy management resource on their own, which fuels any other caster secondary perfectly. Don't worry about end game content like the UW just yet, get to enjoy the game first before getting into the whole grinding mentality.
